April 18, 2017 – Last week saw each class fill their planters and with the help of Latif and Robert planted their various seeds and plants. After leaving the seeds over the long weekend the students were happy to find that some sprouts have already popped out of the soil and are enjoying the nearly spring weather outside. The classes can now place their planters outside in the daytime and bring them in at home-time to stay safe and warm overnight. The students had a lot of fun planting and the teachers overcame their fears of not being expert gardeners.
We planted; Peas, Potatoes, Marigolds, Strawberries, Carrots, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Corn, Spinach, Pansies, Sunflowers, Beans, Chard, Kale, Peppers, Arugula, Onions and lots of Chives (after the success of the plants last fall) and Basil. The Hub is also experimenting with a rice paddy.
