United Way signature events create awareness and raise funds for our community.
Some United Way signature events include:
Kick-Off Breakfasts
- The annual Fall Kick-Off Breakfasts will be launching our 2010 "Live United" Campaign in communities throughout the Central and South Okanagan Similkameen. This event is designed to inform and inspire our community on how they can give, advocate and volunteer and how through the United Way they are impacting the community. The Kelowna campaign Breakfast will be hosted on September 16th, West Kelowna will launch their campaign September 17th, while Penticton's will be held on September 22nd.
Dinner of Distinction
- The Dinner of Distinction is designed to honour exceptional individuals for their contributions to our community. The 2009 dinner included a live auction and millionaire draw and raised over $152, 000 for the United Way Campaign. This year, the United Way will honour former mayor Jim Stuart, with a dinnerd held on November 4th, 2010.
Day of Caring
- Day of Caring is a community-wide expression of the power of volunteering! It is a day of hands-on, volunteer initiatives in which United Way connects volunteers from businesses, corporations, union groups, and/or donors with non-profit organizations in their communities to complete various projects that may not otherwise be done without the support of the community.
Plane Pull
- This event, held next year in May of 2011, features teams from several local businesses and associations pulling a Convair-stretch plane 20 feet for the chance to win amazing prizes and bragging rights. This fun event also includes a barbecue, live band and entertainment. Not only does this involve employees and boost team-spirit, but all proceeds collected go right back into the community.
Spirit Awards
- Spirit Awards are presented to those volunteers and organizations in the community who have put forth an exceptional effort on behalf of United Way during the annual campaign, mostly in workplaces. This year, the ceremony will take place in February of 2011.
